Choosing healthy snacks for weight loss is very important as too
many of the wrong kind of snacks will see your dieting attempts
fall off the rails.
Sometimes it is impossible to resist our favourite snack and it
is ok to give in every now and again because if you don’t you will
only crave it more and more.
There are lots of different snacks you can have that are satisfying
as well as being fairly low in calories.
The best snack you can have while you are dieting or trying to lose
weight is a piece of fruit such as an apple or a banana but if that
just won’t cut it try some of these alternatives.
Generally at mid-morning glucose levels start to drop so try having
a strawberry smoothie (225 cals) or go for half a bagel with low
fat cheese (175 cals). A small bag of banana chips contains only
199 calories and will satisfy any sugar craving you have.
If like most people you get to mid-afternoon and feel your eyes
drooping try pate on rye bread (250 cals) or a large slice of ginger
bread which contains 244 calories.
The best thing for your weight loss attempt though is if you keep
snacking to the minimum and eat more foods that will leave you feeling
fuller for longer.
The best types of food for this are those which score low on the
GI (Glycaemic Index) as they release their energy into the bloodstream
at a slower rate than foods that score highly on GI list and so
leave you feeling fuller for longer.
Foods that have high GI scores release their energy quickly which
causes blood sugar levels to rise. This is soon followed by a slump
which causes us to feel hungry again.
If you must snack try and snack healthily and consider incorporating
some foods on the Low GI list into your diet to leave you feeling
fuller for longer.
