Knowing how to change eating habits for weight
loss is important if you feel that your eating habits are preventing
you from losing weight.
Habits built up over a lifetime can be hard to break, for example
if you regularly watch TV while eating biscuits or often find yourself
snacking on unhealthy treats at work.
Fortunately all habits can be broken and one of the best ways to
go about this is by keeping a food journal of everything that you
eat and when for a week. When you are doing this write down how
you are feeling at the time as this will help you identify if you
are eating because you are hungry or for some other reason such
as boredom, stress or anxiety.
When you have done this you will be able to truly see what your
eating habits really are and work out ways to change eating habits
that will lead to weight loss.
If you find that you regularly comfort eat while watching TV try
doing something more stimulating that gets you out of the house
for a while such as going for a short walk to take your mind off
food or try and find a healthier replacement for your favourite
snack.
If your food journal shows that you eat a lot of foods that contain
high amounts of sugar it may be worth thinking of ways to change
your diet.
Eating foods that
contain large amounts of sugar causes a spike in blood sugar levels
which is soon followed by a sudden crash which causes the body to
crave more sugar.
Switch to foods that score low on the GI List as this will help
to keep blood sugar levels constant through the day and help to
keep those cravings at bay.
When you are trying to change your eating habits it is important
to focus on one thing at a time and not to try and change them all
at once as this will more than likely lead to failure.
Start small and once you have successfully broken one habit move
on to the next one.
