How to change eating habits to lose weight.
We all have different
habits when it comes to food, some good and some bad.
Some of the habits I’ve managed to get rid of over the years include;
mindless snacking when watching TV, snacking when the kids have
gone to bed, using food as a reward after a hard day’s work and
comfort eating on a regular basis.
Habits that have been built up over a lifetime can be hard to break
and can seriously undermine any weight loss attempt but with a little
time and perseverance it can be done.
One of my biggest habits was raiding the cupboard once the children
were in bed but now I find other ways to give myself a little treat
that doesn’t involve food such as having a long, hot, relaxing bath.
Your habits may be different but the key to breaking them is to
first of all identify them and then work on ways of changing them.
If you find yourself regularly comfort eating because you are bored
or stressed try and find other ways of dealing with these emotions.
Eating is only a short term answer to these problems and is not
doing you any good.
If snacking between meals is a problem for you try a healthier alternative
for a few days. I used to love eating biscuits in front of the TV
but now I have a bowl of popcorn without sugar or salt which contains
a fraction of the calories of all the biscuits I used to eat.
Some people find that keeping a journal of everything that they
eat is useful in identifying their habits and helping to break them.
Record everything that you eat for two weeks and you may be surprised
at some of the patterns that emerge.
Although you may think that you will never be able to break your
bad eating habits with a little support from your friends and family
you will be able to do it.
