How to choose healthy snacks to lose weight.
Although snacking between meals is generally seen as being a bad
thing sometimes you just have to have a little something to get
you through the day. If you choose the right snack that is good
for you and low in calories it will do your diet no harm either.
Obviously crisps, biscuits and cakes are all out. Even ones advertised
as being low in fat can still be high in calories (make sure that
you read the label of any product describing itself as low fat)
and contain large amounts of sugar and salt.
Here are a few of my favourite healthy snacks that you can eat between
meals without feeling guilty. Yoghurt and honey is one of my favourite
combinations and a 120g pot is only a 140 calories.
Use low fat unflavoured yoghurt and a tablespoon of honey to sweeten
it.
Chocolate can make a low calorie snack if you choose the right type.
25g of dark chocolate contains 100 calories much less than milk
chocolate does. Dark chocolate is a good source of anti-oxidants
as well as being rich in magnesium.
Almonds are a good source of fibre, protein, magnesium and vitamin
E. They are also a low GI food and will leaving feeling satisfied.
A small handful of almonds contain around 150 calories.
Try making your own home-made smoothie as a cheaper alternative
to the expensive shop bought ones.
Also you know your smoothie will have no additives or sweeteners
in it and will be a great source of fibre, vitamins and minerals.
1 serving will contain around 190 calories depending on the ingredients
you put into it.
There are lots of healthy snacks available that can give you an
energy boost without ruining your weight loss attempts.
