How To Speed Your Metabolism
How to speed your metabolism is a question often
asked by both dieters and athletes alike. Having a slow metabolism
is often blamed when people find it hard to lose weight. An increase
metabolism will help to burn fat quicker, improve digestion and
ultimately help to lose weight.
Metabolism is usually divided into two categories.
The first of these is Catabolism which is how the body gets energy
from food. The second category is Anabolism which is the process
by which the body uses energy to create new cells and to repair
old ones.
There are a number of factors which determine your
metabolic rate which is the number of calories that you use throughout
the day. Your base metabolic rate is the energy that your body uses
to keep you alive e.g. heart beating and lungs breathing. On top
of this you have the amount of energy you use in physical exercise
and the amount you use in the digestion of your food. You do not
need to do very much to boost your metabolism. A slight change in
what you eat and the amount of exercise that you do can result in
significant benefits.
The easiest way to speed up your metabolism is
by increasing the amount of physical activity that you do. Increased
physical activity has numerous benefits concerning metabolism such
as reducing the amount of body fat and increasing muscle. This is
a benefit to your metabolism rate as muscle burns more energy than
fat. Exercises such as swimming or running also increase your metabolic
rate for up to 6 hours even after you have finished exercising.
Other simple ways to boost your metabolism include
eating less fatty foods, ensuring that you eat breakfast (as the
body has had no energy intake overnight). Boosting your metabolism
can therefore result in more weight loss for less work.
