Making healthy choices to lose weight.
Losing weight is one of the best ways you can improve your health
and overall levels of wellbeing. When you lose weight you reduce
your levels of blood pressure and cholesterol as well as reducing
rates of heart disease, diabetes and some forms of cancer.
When you lose pounds you also boost energy levels and self-confidence
and self-esteem.
Making healthy choices is important if you want to start losing
weight. It is hard after all to lose weight on a diet of pizza and
cake.
Eating a nutritious diet does not have to boring and you do not
have to feel that you are being deprived of anything. In fact it
is better if you do not ban any food altogether as this will make
you crave it more, just remember to watch your portion sizes when
you are having your favourite treat.
To start making healthier choices try following some of these tips.
Choose lean cuts of meat and poultry without skin and cook them
by grilling, baking or boiling them not by frying.
Eat at least 2 servings of fish each week for the essential omega-3
fatty acids that they contain, trout and herring are the best sources
for this.
Cut back on drinks that contain high levels of sugar such as sodas,
alcohol and juices. Replacing them with water is an easy way to
save lots of calories each day.
Eat 5 servings of fruit and vegetables each day and have at least
one serving with each meal. By bulking up your meals with fruit
and veg you leave less room for foods that contain more calories.
Reducing the amount of salt in your diet can help you to lose weight
as a diet that is rich in salt can cause the body to retain water.
Although diet plays an important role in losing weight being physically
active everyday is also important as this helps to burn off excess
calories and tone and strengthen the body. It is recommended that
you exercise for an hour at a time at least 3-4 times each week.
